Over the weekend there were dozens
of static fire-ups - each one drawing huge crowds of spectators.
Sid Waterman
and Ronnie Hampshire - together again. This was one of the three
major debuts at the event and what a fine job they did.
Another premiere debut
was Ron Johnson's recreation of the ChiZler V. ChiZler

trek (from Tennessee) to Pomona with his Smirnoff beauty.
The Greek's 16 year old granddaughter
Krista got into the ChiZler for a cackle on Saturday morning.
The whole family was there to watch. They all seemed to enjoy
it. And Krista was thrilled to be in Grandpa's car!
On the left a very relieved owner,
Ron Johnson. The project was done in less than two months from
inception to fire-up. Next to Johnson is Gary Flannagan, don't
know the next guy, then Paula Baldwin, Chris's daughter who became
Mrs. Flannagan a couple of weeks later. Then the ageless Greek
and his wife Sandy.
Later in the day Krista
got another fire up in the BankAmericar.

SATURDAY STATIC START
CACKLEFEST
The new format for Cacklefest
had its first test by fire on Saturday. From now on at all sanctioned
Cacklefest events the self start cars will be towed out and started
in front of the grandstands either the day before (as was the
case here) or the day after (i.e. CHRR) the push start cars.
In all it was a success and illustrated the need to separate
the two unities.
Before the final pro qualifying
session the cars were towed from the corral into the return road
to the pits under the main grandstands to be rolled onto the
track during some sportsman qualifying.
Force was everywhere
(as usual) and spent a lot of time with the "old guys".
Some of the cars were
rolled out and sent up track to a position on the wall.
Others peeled off to
the right to start the bottom of the line-up.
When all the cars were in place
the participants all went back under the stands to await the
conclusion of Alcohol Funny Car qualifying.
When it was time to rumble the
intros were done by Alan Reinhart and Dave McClelland.
